Boutskos: “The team is united and confident…”

PAOK head coach Pantelis Boutskos, speaking in the Press Conference after the game against Promitheas Patras VIKOS Cola, stated:
Congratulations to the players. We managed the energy aspect very well, which was one of our main objectives, as it was our fourth game in ten days. I am very satisfied with how the players responded. We imposed our rules and had the luxury of managing playing time.
There are things we need to improve. It is important that the team is very united and confident, especially now that we have crucial games ahead. We keep this vibe to carry us into the next game. We have a semifinal ahead of us; our opponent is an excellent team, they have made their mark in Spain, they are above EuroLeague teams, they play very physical and modern basketball. When you are in a semifinal, the only thing that matters is how you reach the final. It is important that our fans give us a boost on Wednesday. Together, we can achieve much more.
Answering further questions, Mr. Boutskos also referred to:
On what he would like to improve in the team…
We have taken several steps in the right direction. I don’t separate defense from offense, because there is constant interaction between the two. A good offense prevents the opponent from running in transition, while a good defense creates momentum for the offense. It is a continuous effort to improve in all areas every time. If we consider how many decisions players make every second, how momentum shifts, and how they must evaluate situations, it is clear that we need to play with focus and as a unit. I am satisfied with how the players sacrifice their ego for the team, and this is a good foundation for positive things to come.
On the way the team is now playing…
When you are so focused on defense and force the opponent into bad decisions, you earn the opportunity to attack. Our team motto is ‘attack, no force’ — to attack without forcing things. We talk a lot with the decision-makers, using individual video sessions. At the end of the day, it all depends on the quality of the shots you take. We want to play modern basketball; it’s a style that excites the players. We will face Murcia, a team that plays fast — it will be a ‘dogfight’ in terms of forcing the opponent into less efficient choices. We want to bring intensity and energy.
On the team’s intensity levels and readiness ahead of the game against Murcia…
Over the past week, because we had many issues, the entire organization stepped up to the maximum. The whole staff did an excellent job managing everything. Now, we will see the truth on the court on Wednesday.”
